(2012-02-21) | h - I have been hoping you could be tempted to return to the area - as ever your aerial shots bring everything into context - I see you missed the ice-cream van again! A superb photograph but even your photograph does not show all the earthworks just the NE section - no matter it is great photography | h fenton
(2012-02-21) | The weather forecast on saturday for sunday suggested that it was going to be bright and clear for most of the day and nice winds for kite flying - my intention was to get down to Minchinhampton Common about 8am have a quick trip around the common to get earthworks with low angle of light, then spend the rest of the day split between Minchinhampton, Rodborough and Selsley Commons - as it was when I got out of bed at 6am on the other side of the Cotswolds it was overcast and by 8am it was snowing. I didn't leave home until the weather looked better. It was nice at Cirencester Roman Amphitheatre at lunchtime, but by the time I got to Minchinhampton just after 1pm the clouds were starting to get rather joined up again.
My kite cannot go high enough to show the full extent of the Bulwarks, my photos of some of the other sections are victims of poor light - so I will wait for another day and better pictures. | davidmorgan
(2012-02-21) | My kite cannot go high enough - yes, that's a pity, with the 60 metre altitude limit for kites in this country. Have you ever tried informing the local air-traffic controllers that you want airspace? Apparently that's all you need, no permission, just a declaration, I think. | h fenton
(2012-02-21) | you need advance permission from the civil aviation authority, if you get permission you need to inform local airtraffic control before you put the kite in the air, be in availible contact with air traffic contol during the time your kite is in the air and let them know when the kite is down again. My string is not long enough. Furthermore I couldn't get a photo at a resolution that would show the whole visible extent of this as it is about 1.2miles between the extremities of it. |
