A graphic cut-away I have seen shows these to be about 1/3 the original dimensions of the Dike & Ditch. It is fascinating to me how much back-breaking work went into these Monuments.

Yes, the effort and scale is staggering, beyond (modern day) belief really. And considering it's not thought to be defensive, makes it even more mind boggling as to its true purpose and function.
I would like to add, at the one end of the ditch where it meets the road, the tufts of grass really looked like heads with faces. Lots of them too. This was just in that one part of the ditch. I really felt I was seeing souls / spirits swept up into a pooled area at that point, like debris from a flood. I had a feeling about the ditch at that point, that it had a purpose. I have since read it may have been filled with water, and I also read that spirits cannot traverse water. I'll continue to dream :) | Feanor
(2011-12-29) | My little pet theory with regard to the Stonehenge Ditch & Dike is that, as the Dike is very unusually on the Inside, it acted as a Barrier between the OverWorld (The Interior) and the Unclean Dead of the UnderWorld (The Ditch).
Whatever one believes, they are certainly not defensive in my view, but do act as a kind of Barrier between one ethereal environment and another.
And this one is the Granddaddy of them all! |
