The fantastic Butterdon Hill stone row starts at a cairn situated just downslope to the north of the largest cairn on the hilltop. The cairn is the usual mass of stones with a hollowed out middle, about 8 metres in diameter. Outside the remains of the cairn lies a ring of large fallen slabs, which once must have made an impressive ring.
This view is to the north, along the row, of which the first half mile can be seen as the darker green line of the trodden path. |
