The helmets resemble those worn by Celtic warriors and as such may date to the Late Bronze Age for similar helmets are unknown in Scandinavia and may indicate later contact with Celts. | Posted Comments: Martin L (2011-10-22) | Another idea is, that the men are wearing bird masks with beaks and are watching (ceremony) the sky for arrival of migratory birds (possibly cranes) as indicator of beginn of new spring/growing season. Certainly hard to decide. Some relation to fertility seems obvious though. | Runemage (2011-10-22) | Nice idea Martin. Does anyone have any interpretation of the straight line sticking out under every figure's arm? | DrewParsons (2011-10-23) | Assuming you mean the lines to the left of the men in the picture (!!) - these are often interpreted as swords. | Runemage (2011-10-23) | Thanks Drew, yes, they are the ones :-)
Another thought on the helmets/beaks, http://www.megalithic.co.uk/modules.php?op=modload&name=Forum&file=viewtopic&topic=3904&forum=2
| Martin L (2011-10-23) | @Runemage:
a)"Bird": :) Not my idea of course. The idea is popular and based on depictions found at other sites. At Kallsängen for example there are anthropomorphs with bird features (beaks and wings in this case):

b)"Sword": When the stylized carvings of the anthropomorphs are larger they are bit more detailed and it is easier to recognize that they most probably depict sword scabbards. |
