This is the topmost natural outcrop that surmounts the prehistoric fortified enclosure below. In this view from the south the ground is covered with rocks which give the appearance of a 'chevaux-de-frise' defence designed to impede attackers. However it may simply be that, as a result of the scrub having been burnt, the naturally stony surface has been exposed.
