This recumbent stone makes a fourth in the Tom Nan Carragh row. It is situated at NJ 0097 2451, roughly in line with the other three stones, but does not appear on the OS map. I have checked OS maps as far back as 1871: they all show the other three stones of Tom nan Carragh but not this one.
The RCAHMS webpage for Tom Nan Carragh 3 mentions a report of 1986: "80yds from this stone are two further stones in a shallow depression, one with cup-marks". I saw only one large stone, almost identical in composition, colour and shape to Tom Nan Carragh 3, together with the miscellaneous smaller stones seen in the photo.
The yellow arrow indicates Tom Nan Carragh 3, standing on the skyline, to the right of the utility pole. |
