Excellent angle showing the landscape Hamish, are those lucky people among the stones on a special open access event?

mike, they are not on a 'special open access event', they have paid for an hour in the stones - as can you or anyone else at English Heritage's discretion after you have filled in a form and paid some money in advance.

The prices for April 2011 to March 2012 are
Adults: £15.30, Members of English Heritage, Historic Scotland, Cadw etc + National Trust: £12.30
Children (aged 5-15): £9.20, members (as described above): £7.40
Children (aged under 5): Free
see: http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/daysout/properties/stonehenge/stone-circle-access/ for further details.

note: The English Heritage website is particularly bad at killing links, if the link above does not work search the internet for "Stonehenge Stone Circle Access" and you should get directed to the right page on the English Heritage website.

way back in 2004 myself and a friend booked what was the a £10 per hour in the stones when we got there we were the only two people booked for that one hour session so we had the stones all to our selves (plus the security man ) as the security man wanted to watch the sun set from the stones he let us stay at the stones for a further half hour and watch the sunset
