| Posted Comments: Andy B (2004-07-18) | That's amazing, how did you find these Lenny? | lenny (2004-07-20) | I asked at the distillery if any one knew of the circle. The staff and Distillery manager were all suprised to learn that one existed there at all. So next I asked around a few of the locals and was put on to an elderly gent in his 80's. He was able to confirm the moving of the Stones to the church yard happened During the war years. Before that they had been moved to a house in near by Carron. The same house that the Pictish stones had come from. These Runic stones had been discovered in the Old Church at Carron and had, like the head stones eventualy moved to Knockando. To be honest, if you visit the Church, the 3 stones stick out like a sore thumb, they are so clearly ancient, it was a shame that the circle was destroyed. we should be greatful though, to the person who saved these 3 as they would have been lost forever |
