| Posted Comments: colint (2011-06-30) | I had taken a photograph of this stone a couple of weeks before I knew its origin. It was located on a reinstated public foorpath over a deep opencast site. At the time I felt compelled to photograph it even though it seemed only to be a large boulder with some plough marks on it. Something about its shape must have made me take the photo.
When I learned from the farmer that this was dug up near the C&C stone and that he had not marked it during transport, and the field it was in has not been ploughed in over 100years and all early maps including a 250year old map show the field as pasture.
Maybe the stone and its lines are signiificant. | tiompan (2011-06-30) | I think you were right first time Colint ,that looks like recent markings at the top left and damage at the centre. No rock art though . | colint (2011-06-30) | My interest in the stone was probably triggered by the shape - which isn't obvious in a 2D picture. The markings on the top may have been some local trying to crack it to allow it to be moved from blocking vehicles from the footpath. | colint (2011-06-30) | Just to try and describe the shape, it was almost symetrical about a centre line across the top left to right. on the right hand side were two flat faces on the top sloping and right hand side. |
