| Posted Comments: SolarMegalith (2011-05-29) | Omg ! When I visited Starveall last year the long barrow was still covered with trees. It looks like removal of trees strongly disturbed the mound :( | TheCaptain (2011-05-29) | Wtf? First reaction is what the heck is going on here? But after a while for calming down, it has to be said the trees were old and possibly dead. Not sure what type they were, but lots of the trees round this part are dying with some sort of disease (a leaf miner I think). And the big trees growing on barrows never really do them any good, the roots disrupting the insides, and of they fall over destroying everything.
So, after the initial horror, maybe things are not so bad - as long as this doesn't mean it now just gets ploughed flat to the rest of the field. | 4clydesdale7 (2011-05-29) | My thoughts after calming down too were that this could be a magnificent opportunity for some investigative archaeology - any know of some enthusiastic people with trowel who can travel - keep smilin' :-) |
