These are 2 standing stones but emphatically not paired. This, the S stone, is the only one of the two which looks to be genuinely prehistoric. It is over 10' high and has been cut vertically in half so that the northern face (the opposite to that shown here) is a smooth plane on which what appears to be a memorial plaque has been attached. The plaque reads:
"Waldo
1904-1971
Mur Fy Mebyd
Foel Drigarn, Carn Gyfrwy, Tal Mynydd.
Wrth Fy Nghefn
Ym Mhob Annibyniaeth Barn."
Translation anyone?

| Posted Comments: T S (2004-09-24) | Waldo, a poet of great reputation, lived in Mynachlog-ddu
roughly translates
Wall round my boyhood, Foel Drigarn, Carn Gyfrwy, Tal Mynydd
At my back in all independence of mind. |
