It is suggested (Kilburn 2010) that they may mark the western and southern edge of the Derbyshire Peak District, the westernmost of the seven boroughs of Danish Mercia |
| Posted Comments: astronomer (2011-05-30) | This should of course be the Five Boroughs! Wikipedia have a nice map of central England ca 912 to illustrate their Five Borough article. The curve of the northwestern edge of the Derby Borough exactly matches the distribution of these stone shafts. |
