Contact them for permission to reproduce it. |  | | Description | Whitehill Wood Stone Circle lies south of the B9025 Turriff-Aberchirder road in north Aberdeenshire. Turn off at the junction signposted 'Bogton 1 mile' and continue until, just after a sharp bent to the right, the gatehouse to Carnousie Estate/Castle appears. Go through this gateway and follow the eatate track for 0.4 mile then park on the verge opposite Carnousie Castle (which is on the right).
Although the stone circle lies some distance east of the castle, the best approach is to continue down the track for about a quarter of a mile until it turns sharply to the left. Around this bend is a gate, on the left, which leads to a forest track that follows the treeline east, then north, to the circle. The first thing you see, in the field to the right just as the trees run out, is the huge Carn Ennit boulder. A little beyond this is the Whitehill Stone Circle. |

(2011-03-20) | My investigations have shown that the 'stone circle' in my photograph may well be just 'a fortuitous setting of boulders immediately N of Cairn Ennit'.

Apparently, the site of Whitehill Wood Stone Circle was actually situated some 100 metres north of Cairn Ennit, in the cultivated field shown. It is clear that nothing now remains of this circle. Many others have apparently, wrongly, attributed the boulders shown here as this stone circle. Sadly, the conclusion seems inevitable that this circle has been destroyed without trace. |
