The Devil's Ring is a perforated septal stone similar to the one at the Bridestones in Cheshire. The Finger was, perhaps, a portal stone. Neither are in their original position.
Located near Mucklestone, Staffordshire and marked on OS map 127. |
| Posted Comments: vicky (2001-08-09) | grid reference of this site is sj70733780 | aj (2001-08-26) | looks similar to the well known men-an-tol site in cornwall | TimP (2002-07-25) | visited as date; obstructed by electrice fence & ring of nettles - but | TimP (2002-07-25) | that won't stop me! Good stones, and can easily climb through hole. | TimP (2002-07-25) | just realised I visited exactly 1 year after it was posted here! | RusViking (2005-02-27) | Maen-an-tol was also supposed to have been moved. Excavation shows that it is in the original site. I believe this also to be unmoved. If you visit the setting close to the dell- it is a compelling location. | RusViking (2005-02-27) | There are some porthole Dolmens in N.France none in this country. I think this site was part of an algnment like the Maen -an -Tol. | corn (2006-05-08) | Didn't realise anyone else had 'done' this one when I submitted mine. Lived in area most of my life and could never get a fix on if or when stones moved...was it this site or possible stone circle on other side of valley? All but one have now been broken up for walling. |
