Description

Arbor Low outer circle stone looking inwards.
Green speckled French serpentine point butted insanely polished "ritual" axe (approx 4700BC)
This is not just a special axe - it is sensational in every respect. No signs of any wear or hafting marks. Beautiful condition. Found Gargas, Pyrenees, France in 1923, previously in Paris museum (sold by them in the 1950s). This axe fascinates museum curators all over Britain . . . Enjoy.

Blingo von Trumpenstein (2012-09-19)	I have reason to believe this is actually made from jadeite rather than serpentine. It looks so similar to a definite jadeite axe in the National Museum of Wales . . .
Runemage (2012-09-24)	Serpentine feels 'soapy' whereas jadeite fells more glassy, if that helps.
Blingo von Trumpenstein (2012-09-25)	Cheers for the thought Rune. I haven't been able to distinguish a difference in neolithic jadeite or serpentine by touch. The extreme polish may be a factor. I've noted the feel of all axes I have held. I'm awaiting a reply from the Museum as to their reason for believing theirs is definitely jadeite...

National Museum of Wales' axe is definitely jadeite (tested as part of Projet Jade) and they have invited me to visit their geology department to have my potentially jadeite axes tested. So I shall be heading to Wales in the near future to get some geological expertise...
