Any thoughts on this one before we shrink it?
Doesn't look prehistoric to me

Belive this is modern.....A technique used to split the immense stones....Also spotted alongside The Ridgeway in some sreas closeby....( 01/03/2011)

The "Dew ponds"were old clay pits mostly for local buildings in or around the area.I belive there is whats left of a Brick kiln inside Totterdown Woods, opposite the "Watered clay pit".
If you look on the O.S. maps located further along there are two "ponds"these also are old clay pits..locally known as "Glory Ann pond".Far side of this area used to be a Farm House alledgely haunted.....Alas hardley any trace unless you foradge about...

I've had a closer look at these in good daylight now. The bottom of each hole has a central nipple - suggests to me that they have been drilled or core samples taken - some geology project.

If these were for splitting they would be in straight lines wouldn't they? how deep are they? this isn't a rock cannon or similar firework?

i think it was Glory Ann Barn? The pond was formed from quarrying probably. I'm pretty sure there was a long barrow nearby which has completely vanished now?
