(2011-06-14) | Many of the people here on this Forum have been to Great Henge and know how big the Stones are.
For those who have only seen a few photos with no one in them to scale by, here's an idea of the size.
About a third the way up the left-hand Stone in this picture you will see a line of symbols etched across the face. (This is a nearly unreadable line of Latin) This line is at eye-level of an average person.
Also seen in this picture, below the Latin, are two soft and worn carved axes or daggers. They are thought to have been engraved by the Wessex Folk, the people who originally raised the Stones so long ago. There's about 45 of them salted around the site, among the hundreds of other autographs people have made throughout the ages. |
