(2010-11-01) | Glastonbury is probably the most openly Pagan and New Age centre in the country. Open rituals are commonplace there as is every metaphysical activity you could think of.
Lammas is the Pagan Festival for harvest on August 1st, also called Lughnasadh. Beltane is the Pagan fertility festival on 1st May.

The Michael Line is the one Hamish Miller and Paul Broadhurst tracked in 'The Sun and the Serpent'. Having seen previous bluster about leys and dowsing recently in comments, my guess is Philip very diplomatically used the word 'alleged' as that pacifies both camps and keeps comments on the image, not the metaphysics ;-) | holger rix

(2010-11-01) | Well, I've not voted for my own work and I'm not pushing this for the competition. If others like it and vote for it then that's great. Call it coincidental if you will that it's been entered on the 1st November, but with so many photos being sent in these days, if it happens to be the 2050th in a given month few will ever see it. Nough said.
The photo has not been warped but the camera was pointing uphill slightly in the middle frame (of the seven) and therefore the sweep of the rotation was at an angle to the horizontal.It is a sloping segment of the scene. Other than that it is a straightforward stitched pano.
The (alleged) Michael Line was I believe first noted by John Michel, who I had the privilage of knowing in my youth. Apart from linking (allegedly) a number of St Michael hilltop churches from Cornwall to Norfolk, it is also by extraordinary coincidence the direction of sunrise on Beltane (1st May) and Lammas (1st August), these two dates being exactly equidistant between the solstices. So on Mayday the days are getting longer and at Lammas the same point is reached as the days become shorter. I was told by a passing druid that this is not quite the case - because of the vagueries of our calandar, the exact mid point quarter days are the 3rd of May and 3rd August. Perhaps someone can pick up on this point?
