This site holds some of the finest megalithic art this side of the Boyne valley. What an absolutely dreary and unappealing entrance. Could anyone have tried harder to make it look like the entrance to a prison? I appreciate they have to protect it against the increasing numbers of the population incapable of joined-up thinking, but they could have made it much more attractive than that. | cerrig (2010-10-30) | I would have to agree with you Rune. I visited this site back in the summer, and it was quite depressing. It's not just the entrance, but the way the whole place resembles a bunker. I didn't even bother to take a photo as I didn't want any reminders of it. | AngieLake (2010-10-30) | Must turn out the footage from my first visit here, because the place scared me so much that my hand was shaking while filming inside! (Camcorder on night-setting.) The approach and gateway might have had something to do with it, but it was just so darn' dark and spooky inside on my own.
[Good place to spend Halloween?] ;-) | DrewParsons (2010-10-31) | Yes, I suppose it does resemble a bunker!! I guess the problem is protecting the stones inside from the 1% idiot vandals who would damage them and doing so in an aesthetic way and within budget. |
