(2010-10-25) | It's in the evening, about 9pm. A 2 minute exposure. Surprising how far the stars move in such a short time. The full moon is just out of shot to the left. | TheCaptain

(2010-10-26) | It would be difficult to get a clear and static view of the stars Angie, because of the need to have a long exposure due to the darkness of the foreground. By leaving the shutter open for a while it sort of captures more light. Without doing this the foreground would be quite dark, much more than shown here. There are all sorts of combinations of camera settings that could be used under these circumstances, but they are all compromises between the light and movement of the stars. This was about the best I could come up with on the night, but I think I could improve on it if I get another chance.
I would have waited a while longer until the moon was above the island. This would have shown things up a bit better I think. My problem there was that I have a bit of an embarrasing reaction to certain places at certain times . This meant that I had to dash home before I did something very childish. There must be a hot spot close to where this picture was taken.

(2010-10-26) | You can tell that I'm hopeless with anything technical, photographically! Haven't been doing any 'dark' ones to find out this, though I wish I *had* tried at midnight at Callanish in July 2001. |
