Only discovered in 1958 the cairn is about 135' long x 50' wide and stands to a greatest height of 10'. The tripartite stalled chamber contains 3 side cells. The tomb is especially remarkable for the extensive human remains (at least 338 people) and the wide range of non-human remains including those of eight white-tailed eagles suggesting that this bird was the totem of the Isbister people. Tthe tomb is colloquially known, inevitable, as "The Tomb of the Eagles". |
