I have wanted to capture this for ages, and this evening's clear skies but no moon meant I just had to head up there after work!

What settings did you use. | AngieLake (2010-10-08) | Well done Pab! | nicoladidsbury (2010-10-09) | Fab :) | PAB (2010-10-10) | Thanks all - it was lovely to see it had come out as I'd hoped! As for setting cerrig, just had it on 'bulb for nearly 25 mins, with ap of 4.5, as that is the lowest my camera will go. I'm not sure why it wasn't sharper, probably because it was very difficult to see with manual focus if I'd got it right, and autofocus couldn't cope. Will be trying at other sites too, hopefully before there are too many others posted! | PAB (2010-10-10) | Meant to add - reason for the ellipse was to eliminate some stray street lighting which had crept in to the corners. That way, I could use the image just as it was in the RAW version in the camera, without any adjustments on the computer apart from adding my name.... | cerrig (2010-10-12) | Free star trail software. Can also be used to make a time lapse movie. I've tried it and it works well, just make sure you add all the photo's at the same time. I tried to add one after i'd done one trail, and it wouldn't have it.
60 x 30 second exposures gives a trail about 10 mm's long. More exposures would be better. Medium jpeg's work ok, otherwise the file gets too big. ISO 200. f5.6. These are not written in stone, but they worked ok for me.

| cerrig (2010-10-27) | PAB, have you tried auto focussing while shining a light on the stones, and then switching to manual before taking the photo. It works if your camera will allow it. |
