Unless otherwise stated, this image is the copyright of the submitter. Contact them for permission to reproduce it. | | | Description | This is a reconstruction of a stone axe by John Lord, such as the axe heads made from stone at Cwm Mawr, Langdale Pike or Graig Lwyd.
This exhibit is in the family room display within the restaurant of Cardingmill Valley, near Church Stretton. Cardingmill Valley and The Long Mynd into which the valley deeply penetrates, are under the care of The National Trust.
The Long Mynd boasts numerous prehistoric features, including The Port Way, a prehistoric track still well used, and along which such artefacts as the axe-heads would have traded. The nearest features sit right above Cardingmill Valley - Bodbury Ring hillfort to the north, and The Devil's Mouth Cross Dyke to the south. |
