Description The Merry Maidens stone circle near Lamorna in Cornwall. Dating from the Bronze-Age there are 19 stones in all standing at around 4 feet high. According to the legend, 19 local maidens were turned to stone, for their sins, because they danced on the Sabbath day. Over the road two more standing stones called The Pipers were also turned to stone for following the maidens and playing the pipes.
