Only the diagram in the CADW guidebook made its location possible; it is situated between the Maen Y Bardd Dolmen and the Cae Coch Menhir.
This picture was taken in the early morning sunlight, streaming from the east across the surface of the stone. Having previously investigated the stone for the incision, I had found nothing. However these conditions made me think something was visible on this occasion, and in these conditions.
Having spent some time looking at the picture since uploading it from the camera, I do believe the cross, within a circle, is just visible.
Near the bottom of the stone is a recent attempt at a cross (made between end of July 2003 and start of April 2004). This actually cuts into the rim of the circle.
Look just above the top of this vandalism, and you should see the crossing of the upright and sideways parts of the cross, and from there the rest of the cross is detectable.
I have also uploaded a picture with this feature highlighted. |
