I apologise if I am wrong, but is this a fairly old picture ? The outer structure of the barrow seems much better condition than I remember, and indeed is in the photo I posted from last summer.

Part of my 1993 survey collection i.e relatively recent, comparative to the age of the site.

Looking again, I reckon that not only is it far more overgrown now - Council cutbacks ? - but the last ten years of people climbing all over it has dislodged and knocked out many of those neatly positioned stones. Admittedly, the whole thing is only a relatively modern recreation of the original, but I personally think it looks much better in this picture, all neat and tidy

It definitely looks tidier in this pic than when we visited approximately 4 years ago - http://www.megalithic.co.uk/modules.php?op=modload&name=My_eGallery&file=index&do=showpic&pid=139

Its is a pity that not all visitors treat ancient sites with care. Sites that have lain undisturbed for 4000 years can readly be destroyed by people clambering on them or "taking souveniers". (That's assuming the site has withstood; stone robbers, farmers ploughs. road builders, wall builders, religeous bodies "de-diabolising" practices, quarries, and of course graffiti morons.
