In this picture you can see the rampart three at the east side of mont lassois, in front of the seine river. Picture is taken from top of levee, looking southwards into the ditch. Alltogether from ground of the ditch to top of the levee makes it about 13 meters high today, so it must have been much higher!
This rampart is a part of the complex of four. Their function is yet unknown. Most probably they guarded the access to the river seine.
One of the biggest doubts about that: The Seine River is quite small and only accessible by small boats. The Rampart is TODAY about 6 meters high and hast a ditch on BOTH sides, one of them is at least as deep as 7 meters. This is huge, as can be seen in my other pictures. So our team still can't explain the purpose of this monstrous wall.
Our dig starts at 26th of June, visitors are always welcome! |
