"This stone was unearthed in July 1887 when the Rev. JR McLaren's servant was leveling ground before the front door of the Established Church Manse i.e. in the area in the original centre of Alyth and near the site of the original Celtic Church.
The stone which is dated to the 8/9th century AD. The natural slab of gneiss has carved on the front a Latin Cross with a central depression and a spike at the base (an unusual feature.) The arms and shaft are decorated with interlace work with four single spirals in the cross angles. On the rear are the Pictish symbols referred to a double disk and z-rod.
