Another view of the small standing stone just inside the gate of St Mary's churchyard. It has some sort of carvings on it - like notches and indentations. Could it have come from a long lost stone circle half a mile S. Can't be certain about this stone though. |

I'm not sure about this one. It's not a prehistoric stone obviously, but is more probably the shaft of the Churchyard Cross mentioned by local historian Clifford Byrne in his Newchurch-in-Pendle: Folklore, Fact and Fiction (Marsden Antiquarians: Nelson 1982). I'd give it its own site entry as the Church Cross to be on the safe side. |
