A circular fort high on a hilltop with fantastic views. It has the outer bank and ditch separated by a wide space from an inner ditch. Why have an inner ditch in a fortification? It is almost as if it is a fort and henge combined.

(2005-01-23) | I took an almost identical picture today (so I won't submit it) - the gap between the rampart and inner ditch is truly strange. I guess its a good place to take a picture because you've just arrived at the site, go up the rampart in a clockwise direction and then you're struck by this peculiar gap. And its all so green. | AngieLake
(2005-01-23) | What if it wasn't a fort, but a ceremonial gathering-place? Perhaps the serious ritual happened in the centre, whilst lesser processions revolved around the wide level space here, all watched by an audience drawn from the area's tribes, standing on the outside bank. The fact that the entrances were east and west could point to equinox ceremonies. The east entrance was apparently staggered by a low bank and ditch, highlighting that approach. It was high up, so impressive. There didn't seem to be evidence of palisading. Makes you wonder........ | JimChampion
(2005-01-25) | Visited four other hillforts over the same weekend and Figsbury was definitely the odd one out. Plenty of theories around on the web, there's no way this is a fort. | AngieLake
