The stone made from a type of quartz not found in the area, measures about six feet by four feet and weighs about a ton. It is a possible remnant of a standing stone and may have been an original foundation stone for Henscott Church.
Map ref: SS 4409 Directions: The village can be reached from a series of minor roads off the A388, the A3072 or the A386 from Great Torrington.

(2005-04-20) | On November the 5th each year, following ancient tradition, the villagers turn the Devil's Stone with staves in order to safeguard the village. | Gerry Dunlop
(2005-05-09) | I was in Shebbear only today, May 9th 2005; since nothing dreadful has happened to the village, turning the Devil's Stone obviously works well. |
