Again, the glare is hiding any real detail, but if the Sun could clearly be seen here, it would be in the lowest notch from the previous zoomed and cropped image of Twr y Fan Foel. The day before this it would have been about a Sun's diameter to the left, or dropping neatly onto the shelf below the highest point.
This demonstrates that, on the day of the Megalithic Vernal Equinox, (one day later than our modern Equinox) the Sun rises through the peaks of the Brecon Beacons in the morning, and sets over the highest peak in the Black Mountain range in the evening. The foresights for both being matched to the size of the Sun and Moon.
This is only true when viewed from this mound. The odds on that being chance would be enormous. |

What a brilliant bit of detective work Cerrig, well done, your perseverance has paid off.
Bet you're walking on air!
| AngieLake (2010-03-25) | Very well done Cerrig! With an important alignment like that the barrow must have been the last resting place of someone pretty special. | cerrig (2010-03-25) | Actually Rune I do resemble a famous sleuth. I'd like to say it was someone like Sean Connery, but no, I'm more like Margaret Rutherford. And if I spend much more time here It will be my resting place too. | Thingy (2010-03-25) | Excellent work Cerrig - your patience has paid off handsomely. It would be a fitting final resting place if your long waits resulted in your freezing to death while making these observations. In the future, coach-loads of megalithic fans arriving for the equinox might find your remains standing bolt upright in the centre of the mound. A small plaque could read: "The petrified remains of a very stubborn Mega-Portaler dating from the post-sensible era. The grin on his face suggests he found what he was looking for. The resemblance to Margaret Rutherford is not fully understood." | cerrig (2010-03-25) | i think it's the hat and frock that confuses people. I must return them to Sem when I'v finished with em, not just yet though. | guile (2011-09-06) | *Applauds* Marvellous! Congratulations on your research and the beautiful set of photographs to go with it. |
