Description the causeway ?? There are many stones about the Brodgar bridge large enough to be either from the earlier bridge or a causeway, but it is only this last week that I have seen these 'stepping stones', roughly the size of of a paving slab, running diagonally underwater from by the NE end of the bridge to at least past the iron rod. If it is prehistoric it looks to be more or less headed in the direction of the Barnhouse settlement rather than the stones

That's an amazing discovery. Have you contacted OAT to see what they think, Howar ?

OAT are now OAS and they wouldn't touch me with a bargepole

What a shame, surely we all have the best interests of the ancient places at heart.
Whatever the age of those 'stepping stones' it is a fabulous discovery and warrants investigation. If it is to do with Barnhouse, then even more so as no-one has much clue what that settlement is all about apart from R-word mutterings - although it's 5 or so years since my last visit so things may have changed on that score.

in mediaeval times as well as the clapper bridge there was also a ford so the 'stepping stones' could be a part of that
