It is tucked away in one corner, suggesting to me that it was a 'participant' in any ritual that took place here, rather than being the focus of that ritual. It could also be lying in ambush for any unwelcome intruders entering along the passage, as Aubrey Burl suggests this stone is "akin to others in Brittany believed to be embodiments of a female guardian of the dead" (A Guide to the Stone Circles of Britain, Ireland and Brittany). |
