This screenshot using MemoryMap shows where Thingy's picture (PID:54436) is looking towards on the Precelli Hills (aka Mynydd Preseli).
The highest point must be Foel Feddau (SN102323), and the next high point to the left will presumably be Carn Sian (SN 129322) just above Bedd Arthur and therefore close to the source of 'the' Bluestones? The small inset shows that there is nothing to block this line of sight, 3 miles distant. Any other suggestions? |
| Posted Comments: Thingy (2010-02-09) | Pab, thanks for this. An alternative: start point SN 06590 32085 (Cerrig Lladron cairn at summit of Foel Eryr; end point Pentre Ifan. My line of sight between these points passes through the summit of Waun Mawn (SN 08250 34480) and a standing stone at SN 09090 35695. Also passes close to the Carnedd Meibion Owen outcrops which seem significant from the research posted by cerrig. The problem with all alignments, however, is that they invariably pass through or close to something that is either intentional, or purely coincidental. | pab (2010-02-09) | Thingy - sorry, hadn't made myself clear! I was just meaning that the stretch of Precellis visible from your photo PID 54436 must be the line I suggested - as it goes between the houses at Shop-Fach a couple of fields from Pentre Ifan? | Thingy (2010-02-10) | Pab, yes I agree. I think your suggested alignment best fits my photo. Let me know if you can see Pentre Ifan from there if and when you test the sight line. |
