NS095535 St Blane's Chapel on the Isle of Bute
This is a place that I keep coming back to as I seem to have peace here. You also have a sense of serenity at this sheltered spot, one of the most beautiful sites on the island above Dunagoil. St Blane was born on Bute where he established his monastery. The existing ruins, dating from the 12th century, were not the first buildings on the site. There is evidence of much earlier settlements. The names of two seventh-century bishops and three eighth-century abbots are recorded among the tombs |
