As the wheather forecast promised a clear night sky and the position of the moon would be low in this early evening I planned a visit of this impressive site+moon. But while approaching the site the sky became completely overcast and looked rather gloomy. I took several pictures without moonlight and was about to leave the site after 40 Minutes when it finally cleared up within a few minutes. Although they did most everything to spoil the site (5 benches placed immediately beside the menhir and a high-tension powerline just overhead) the moonlight enhanced the ambience to a near fantastic level. December 2009.
The German wikipedia site currently (02.12.2009) still contains lots of nonsense info regarding size, weight and geology of the menhir. |
| Posted Comments: krautrock (2009-12-04) | Am I crazy? I can see two faces at the brightest point in the centre of the stone. Super photo! | Martin L (2009-12-04) | Thanky you very much! And.....not to worry ;-) You have been very attentive. During the exposure time (guess ~30s) I placed my grim visage two times at pictures' centre and highlighted with the battery torch. Thought this would give an idea of the size and add some creepy atmosphere as well. At least it was a bit spooky outside there at night. The small wood partly is thick and from time to time some strange noises could be heard. Probably only some animals, but initially I became a bit nervous ;-) Otherwise I felt very safe and welcome near the Menhir. |
