Originally 10 metres deep the ditch was a massive project estimated to have taken 300 people 25 years to construct. Excavations have uncovered bone shoves and antler picks at the lowest levels, then prehistoric pottery, flint tools and small pieces of human bone at the next level, then Roman pottery and Roman metal objects above those. |
