I'm intrigued by the 'shelves' or ledges in this place, and wonder if they were used for anything special. Did some kind of candle-lighting stand on this one to illuminate the chamber... and did the low shelf along the passageway hold similar flames to light the way? Or offerings to the gods, perhaps?
(Assuming it was rebuilt correctly.) |
| Posted Comments: raythemapman (2009-11-15) | Angie I have never paid much attenion to the shelves in your photo till now.I agree with your comments about there purpose as they have been cut into the face of rock.I have posted a photo whitch shows another shelve that must have been cut into solid rock. | raythemapman (2009-11-15) | At the bottom right of right of the photo there are some square patterns,I zoomed in on the area and found the Squares where very clear, there is also faint patterns engraved in this area. They seem a bit unusual for modern graffito.Maybe they were put there as stone markers when the tomb was reconstructed. |
