Description Anglo-Saxon high cross known locally as a late Mercian round shaft. Built on an earlier barrow, it has a large base and the shaft is topped with the remains of a small wheel head cross. Clulow Cross is on top of an unmissable mound above the road. On Christmas Day 1999, the day was as dark and menacing as the picture hints and the wind was absolutely penetrating!

Surely the mound on which the cross stands is a natural feature?
