These are some unusual cup & ring markings on Arran. The nearest grid reference I have is NS001367, which is where you leave the string road (B880) near Brodick and follow a forestry path on foot. It is quite a walk uphill and it does become a bit muddy. I think it is worth going to see them although the area is now surrounded by trees which wouldn't originally have been there. You do get good view from one side though and you can imagine what it would have been like thousands of years ago in clearer surroundings. These markings are more unusual than most I think and could resemble all sorts of things from aliens to mushrooms, who knows? |

Stronoach Wood is quite an extensive site and special for the fact that most of the motifs are rings without(!) cups. More info and photos can be seen at:
