This so-called well has side chambers which do not support the idea that its sole function was a well. Architecturally, it is somewhat similar to the chambers in the mound at Mine Howe (which is certainly not a well - qv) and has been suggested to have a 'ritual' purpose. |
| Posted Comments: Runemage (2010-03-05) | Anyone know why it's not still accessible? ( Apart from being filled with water!!) I was there in about 5 years ago and it was described as a well and fenced off. It took me quite a while to get the site rep to acknowledge most wells don't have steps and chambers, but they were adamant there could be no public access and there are no plans to drain it or pump the water out so it can be investigated. | Andy B (2010-03-05) | Elf n Safety I would guess, or possibly just to prevent damage of people walking on it. |
