Legend says that the one that would dare to remove Camprieu's menhir from its place of origin would die within the year.
It is said that this menhir was formerly in the middle of a field and that it hampered{*bothered*} cultivation. The owner of the field helped by its two sons decided to move it to to the edge of the road at the edge of the field. The menhir was transplanted some hundred metres and the owner and his two sons died within the year.
The menhir was quickly christianized with the installation of a metal cross in its summit and the carving cross on the rock. The priest of Camprieu held numerous masses at the menhir with a lot of holy water.
Another person tried to cut in two fragments the granite monolith but never finishes the work. the stone now retains the deep horizontal groove on.
