The Romano-British town of Kenchester (Magna) is about ½mile to the north and a Roman road lies a short distance to the west.
Roman building materials, including dressed stone (many of which still lay on the bed of the river), mosaic tesserae, and painted wall plaster have been found here suggesting a high status building.
