Contact them for permission to reproduce it. |  | | Description | St Mary's Whitewell stands on a small raise mound, to the south of which are two wells. One well is still visible though overgrown behind a wooden enclosure by a very short walk through two gates on the SW of the church's perimeter. The well had been tested for calcium (perhaps giving the name) though was not present. A sign in the church recognises that it may well have been originally placed there in relation to earlier veneration of the wells.
Visited here this evening, and this place felt good but very ambient and numinous. Church is down in a dip, but by virtue of being painted white is locally very visible. What I felt here I don't feel in many places, and thought it very interesting. Not a visually impressive well, but the location is worthy of a visit. Parking a short distance away on drive to church. |
