|Description ||The Ivory Girl of Brassempouy. Palaeolithic.
Also known as "The Lady in a Hood". Measuring just 3.7 cms, she was carved from a mammoth's tusk 20,000 years ago. Found in south-west France in 1894.
Copy by Peter Herring - one of a series of reproductions of ancient art
|An exquisite piece and find, considering that most works from the early periods, hardly show any facial characteristics at all, and this one has a thinner countenance as well. The sculptor's work is to be more than admired here.|
