Sorry it's not very clear, but beside the actual figure, it does show 'Dr Richard Howsley of the Oxford Radiocarbon Accelerator Unit gently drilling a sample from the head of the figure', in 1988.
Below that is a page from the diary of a Victorian antiquarian showing the figure together with other prehistoric finds from the Newton Abbot area.
The title at the top of the information panel reads, 'Wooden Figure from Kingsteignton'.
Please note that this is pronounced "Kings tayn ton", yet the river Teign that gives the village its name is pronounced the "Teen", and we live in Teignbridge (pronounced "Teenbridge") District Council area. Confused??! |
