The circle is more of a horseshoe as the river Esk has undercut it's banks and you can see some of the stones which are now in the river. It is an evocative valley with much of interest in the area: the loupin stanes can be seen to the north, the remains of a Roman settlement aren't far away and there are quite a few hillforts around.
