Liverpool Holistic Circle and the Mayan Fire ceremony which took place in Castlerigg Stone Circle on June 29th 2008: Hello, a few days ago I wrote: The contact for the Liverpool Holistic Circle given on their web page is Louise Rothwell at holisticcentre@yahoo.com or tel: (01695) 577560. It appears that Louise Rothwell has only a passing connection with the Liverpool Holistic Circle. A spokesperson for Liverpool Holistic Circle writes: "As far as we are aware, Louise Rothwell arranged Tata Pedro's visit to England. There was a connection through a third party between her and one of the regular contributors to the Liverpool Holistic Circle programme. We were asked to host a talk by Tata Pedro and we also agreed to circulate information about his other events. Louise accompanied Tata Pedro and acted as his interpreter. She only arrived in England from Guatemala around the middle of June, and has attended just that one meeting of LHC." "Liverpool Holistic Circle is almost unique: there is no membership, no enrolment and no commitments. Just turn up on any Tuesday evening and join in with the information, inspiration, fun, sharing, tea and biscuits. The organisers are basically one person, assisted intermittently by a few other individuals. We provide a place to meet and a programme of talks and short courses on a diverse variety of topics of a "holistic" nature. We choose not to identify individual "leaders" on our website in order to protect our privacy - a website is, after all, a very public thing." The misunderstanding came about because the itinerary for the group visiting Castlerigg was posted on the Liverpool Holistic Circle's web site and nowhere else we could find. We also found there photos of Louise Rothwell, taking a leading role in a LHC meeting, as she was seen to do in the ceremony at Castlerigg. At the end of the web page it said to contact Louise Rothwell for more information by e-mail at holisticcentre@yahoo.com . The very similar sounding e-mail address, her appearence in the photos, combined with the trip being promoted on their site was taken by us to mean that Louise Rothwell was an organiser of Liverpool Holistic Circle. We could find no other contacts for the LHC named on the site, so we erroneously stated her as the contact. The Megalithic Portal would like to apologise to the Liverpool Holistic Circle for giving the impression that the event at Castlerigg was organised by them. This was incorrect, the event was organised by Maya Unification. The statement from the LHC is reproduced below. Followed by a statement from the Maya Unification, who have been honourable enough to apologise for the events witnessed: ==================================================================
We have today been informed that a forum on your Megalithic Portal website contains inaccurate information and unfounded allegations about Liverpool Holistic Circle and its supposed involvement in an event at Castlerigg on 29th June 2008. Please note the following:
# Liverpool Holistic Circle did not organise an event at Castlerigg on 29th June 2008 or on any other occasion. All Liverpool Holistic Circle meetings take place at the Rosicrucian Chapter Building in Liverpool. No representative of Liverpool Holistic Circle was present at Castlerigg on 29th June. # Liverpool Holistic Circle hosted a talk by Tata Pedro Cruz on the evening of 24th June 2008. This was the only event in Tata Pedro's schedule which was organised by Liverpool Holistic Circle. # The full schedule of events for Tata Pedro's visit to England was published on the Liverpool Holistic Circle website, in a document sent to us by Unification Maya. This was in accordance with our customary practice of displaying information about events organised by people who have contributed to our programme, or other events which we feel may be of interest to visitors to the website, as a service to both past speakers and the public. Notice that the one event for Liverpool Holistic Circle is clearly identified, and that other contact details are given for other events in the schedule. # One of the events listed was, "Sun 29th Jun, Trip to Lake District, Castlerigg Stone Circle". Please notice that nowhere in this document is a Fire Ceremony at Castlerigg mentioned or advertised. # We understand that information about Tata Pedro's visit to Castlerigg was circulated by a local Cumbrian holistic group or network. Liverpool Holistic Circle has no connection, past or present, with this group or network. ================================================================== On behalf of Maya Unification, Tata Pedro Cruz and the 50 or so people from Cumbria present at the Mayan Fire ceremony which took place in Castlerigg Stone Circle on June 29th. Tata Pedro is a Mayan spiritual guide who has just completed a tour of England spreading his message from the Mayan elders of peace and love for this planet. Throughout the world he has been an ambassador of the Maya and in Korea in 2005 he was named as the International “Caminante” for peace in the world. Respect for Mother Earth is the essence of Mayan spirituality and for the Mayans they show this through their sacred fire ceremony. On his arrival at Castlerigg the people gathered were informed that a short invocation to the four directions would take place in the circle and then the fire ceremony would take place in a local field with permission from the farmer. At this point Tata Pedro was invited by many of the Cumbrian people present to complete the Fire Ceremony within the circle. He was informed that just a few days prior to his visit on the Solstice a similar event with fire ceremony had taken place and that this was permitted. He was shown the place where the turf had already been cut a few days previous and a member of the Cumbrian group re-lifted the turf to make space for the small offering of ceremonial materials carried from Guatemala to honour the ancestral sites in England. At no point was a hole dug in the grass, this had been done prior to his arrival. This was witnessed by all the people present. The ceremony was done in the circle by the vote of the 50 or so Cumbrians present and at no point did Maya Unification intend to show any disrespect to this sacred site. The small fire was carefully extinguished at the end of the ceremony and the turf was replaced with the utmost care and respect. Please accept the sincerest apology if offence has been caused in any way. The intention of the ceremony was to share light and peace for the English people and her nation, connecting her with the Mayans through the sacred energy of the land. Tata Pedro was deeply moved by the response of people throughout England and at no point realised that the ceremony would be considered as disrespectful, as for him and the Maya it is the highest offering of respect to connect directly with mother earth through fire ceremony. Today in the Mayan calendar is 3 I’x, the day of the sacred altars, which for the Maya means ancestral places of worship in the hills. As people who live far away, Maya Unification and Tata Pedro had absolutely no knowledge of previous issues concerning the use of Castlerigg stone circle and other sites and they were guided by the consensus of opinion from the local people present. Tata Pedro has now left England and is continuing his pilgrimage for peace in Germany, Italy and the United States. We thank you all for bringing these issues to our attention and apologise again for any offence caused. ==================================================================
