The temple consisted of a central room, surrounded by a passage called an ambulatory, with a portico open to the weather. Close to the temple was an oval hut, thought to have functioned as a shrine. This was built directly over an Iron Age hut, and may show continued use of an earlier ritual building. The two-roomed building to the right [downhill here], is believed to have been a priest's house.
NB: When dowsing here for ritual movement, I was led around the inside of the temple and when leaving was taken up hill above the temple, where I walked around an 'oval' shape before 'entering' it! |
